THE COLOSSEUM: A 72-HOUR AI MARATHON

The Colosseum is an epic conceptual trailer born from an extreme creative sprint. Produced in just three days with virtually no sleep, it was created specifically for the first season of the digital international festival Project Odyssey. The narrative plunges viewers into the heart of ancient Rome, tracking the monumental construction and legendary gladiatorial battles of history's greatest amphitheater. This intense marathon culminated in an Honorable Mention in the Open Format category, marking a successful debut into the competitive generative AI festival circuit.

EARLY GEN-AI: NAVIGATING THE WILD WEST

This project serves as a time capsule of early generative AI video production. To establish the visual foundation, I generated over 300 base images using Midjourney, meticulously curating the best 100 frames. These were then brought to life using the earliest iterations of Runway Gen-2. Unlike modern AI models, these early engines required careful direction to avoid chaotic mutations, resulting in the characteristic slow, deliberate tracking shots that define the trailer's majestic, cinematic pacing.

VFX CORRECTIONS AND SOUNDSCAPES

The AI was far from flawless. A major hurdle was Midjourney's bias toward the modern, ruined Colosseum. To restore the amphitheater to its pristine ancient glory, I used Krita to manually paint over and repair the destroyed facades before animation. The raw clips were then heavily composited and refined in After Effects before the final edit in Premiere Pro. For the audio landscape, the epic choral track was generated using the newly launched Udio platform, while the commanding voiceover was synthesized via ElevenLabs.

THE GLADIATOR LORE

The project also included a touch of historical (and cinematic) flair. The controversial thumbnail features a gladiator in a flooded Colosseum dodging a great white shark. This striking visual was inspired by the hype surrounding Ridley Scott's Gladiator II and the historical accounts of the Naumachia—the spectacular naval battles where the Romans supposedly flooded the arena floor for entertainment. It was a perfect storm of history, AI innovation, and pure cinematic spectacle.
